Folk Festival 2024

When the horrible Jasper fires burnt up 30 % of the town we of course had to cancel our week vacation in a cabin there. (People are still not back to their homes ….if they still have one….at the typing of this blog.)

So, Terry and I decided to try our own hand at a ‘staycation’ here in Edmonton.

Our movie day, home studio painting day, Pigeon Lake day all went very well and on the 4th day we looked forward to our pre-booked massages. I had given gift certificates to T for Easter so I just purchased one for me and away we went.

It was a lovely treat and especially for me as I am having a very tough time right now with shoulder and neck pain.

That afternoon we head off to the Folk Fest for the evening and it was the most perfect weather that I can ever remember for this event. (We’ve been there when the grounds were a rainy, muddy mess).

There were hundreds of people that came out and if I had to give a theme to some of the outfits I saw it would be ‘stripes’……

The first photo above is at the massage place.

I didn’t really know any of the entertainers but most of them were fantastic.

My favourite band were the headliners called “Black Pumas”.

We had the pleasure of bumping into old friends too. The bad news is that we have to sit in the ‘accessible’ area because I can no longer get up off of the hill. The good news is we had the best seats in the house!

Terry scouted out dinner for us from one of the many food tents and our mac n’ cheese with pork was pretty good! (The mini donuts were better ;) ) .

We had a roof over our heads, could see the entertainers clearly, the music wasn’t too loud, and we had a large television to see what the main audience saw as well.

All in all it was a wonderful night. (T had the worst of it because he had to park blocks away uphill and walk back to me after dropping me off and back after the show so he could get the car and pick me up. He is THE best! )
