Picnics, Paintings, and a Priest.

On day 5 of our ‘Staycation’ we headed west to see if we could find a place to do some ‘plein air’ painting with our watercolours. It was a blisteringly hot day but we ‘lubed up’, wore our hats, and found a nice table near the water in Devon, Alberta. (And there were public washrooms nearby!)

But firstly, we wandered around backcountry gravel roads looking for a place to eat our picnic lunch.

We ended up just pulling over near a cornfield in a shady spot and sitting in our chairs. You should have seen… in person… the size of the bumblebee that landed on Terry! Glad I was protected by my massive ‘senior’s bib’ . Ha ha ha.

The lunch I made was a tasty chicken salad with vegetables and dip. Soon after we found the little park in Devon where I was able to use the new lap table that we brought.

Terry decided to work on the picnic table and did TWO paintings!

On Staycation Day 6 we were invited to attend the Marian Centre’s Volunteer appreciation Potluck Picnic.

The I.G.A. near our house is closing and they gave ALL of their products to “Thrive” school (the site of the potluck) for the low income families who attend. WOW! It was a nice afternoon and the food choices were aplenty.

And on our last day of holidays we attended mass, enjoyed breakfast at Hap’s, went for a walk through the nearby GRAND market, and had our wonderful priest, Fr. Dean, over for a pot roast dinner. The conversations were so enjoyable and although I ‘made’ the roast for dinner, Terry got the potatoes, carrots, salads, fresh bread ready, earlier he made the dessert ….cake from scratch….added fresh raspberries from our garden, AND he cleaned up most of the kitchen too. I am so blessed.

One can have a lot of fun ….even if one stays in their own city!
