Steveston Fun

We were called by our son and asked if we would mind taking his oldest boys out to the park for a couple of hours.

Since we had already planned to head to the village of Steveston that afternoon, we picked up the grandsons and took them with us!

We are always playing silly games in the car and this was no exception.

At one point, M said that the name ‘Steveston’ sounds like a town full of boys. Well, Papa, took off with that idea and told them the ‘legend’ of how Steveston got its name.

All in good fun, Papa told the ‘tall’ tale of how once upon a time there was a man named Steve who lived in White Rock but he wanted to paint the rock black.

The town council said, “No”, to that silly idea so Steve decided to find his own town and he named it, “Steve’s Town” which was then shortened to “Steveston”.

There was one major rule, he told our boys, everyone in the village must be named ‘Steve’ or something like that, or they would be kicked out of the town. Ha Ha.

So we all decided that for the afternoon : Papa would be “Papa Steve”, I would be “Stevie”, O would be “Steve-o”, and then we’d have “Marsteve”.

It was so ridiculously funny and when we pulled up to the playground we agreed that we had to only address each other by our ‘new’ names lest we get kicked out of the village.

Lots of giggles and fun there and then our next stop was for ice-creams.

After Terry handed over everyone’s choices of gelatos he asked the 2 servers to please say their name is “Steve” if the boys asked. Well of course Papa encouraged the boys to go inside and ask and their innocent, wide eyed wonder at the response was SO cute.

They actually knew we were all joking but it was fun to play the “Steve” game.
