Happy Birthday, Bev!

I met my friend, Bev (Browne) Dye, when I first moved out west and started teaching at Calgary Academy. This was a grade school for children who….’learned differently’ ….and we taught some wonderful kids and worked with a fantastic staff. In fact, we were just coming up to the 40th anniversary of the school and a reunion celebration but it had to be postponed due to Covid.

In those days Bev was also a model and I had a ‘head shot’ as well because I was an actress. I can’t believe it but in those days we couldn’t really afford/or had a difficult time finding child care so I used to bring my baby, Jared, to school with me! I taught grade 6 at one point. The entire class was made up of boys. I also taught drama and art to the school.

I ended up becoming good friends with Bev and even have the honour of being godmother to her daughter, Alexandra.

I’ve seen Bev go through some health challenges and she’s seen me go through mine. She was very close to her mum and she often babysat for my four children. ( And took care of ME!)

Bev is one of the most giving people I know. She has not only been a teacher but has worked in several fields including having her own catering business. She has taken in foreign exchange students over the years and passed on the importance of caring for our international world to her two daughters who have held incredible jobs in places like China and Thailand. Her daughters speak several languages too.

We’ve known each other for 38 years or so and I had the pleasure of visiting with her and Alex this past summer.

Just wanted to ‘shout out’ a Happy Birthday to one of my forever friends.

So : Happy birthday, Bevie Boop!
