Off To Calgary
A funny thing happened on our last day in Waterton …..we were kicked out of our hotel room!
O.K., it didn’t exactly go like that…ha ha…but on the morning of our 4th day when I was playing guitar and Terry was on his keyboard and the phone was ringing and someone was at the door knocking…..we soon found out that we had only booked 4 nights….NOT 5 .
So , it was pack it up FAST because it’s already past the 11 o’clock checkout time. Woops!
AND, then we found out the shocking news that the hotel we thought we booked in Calgary had somehow been cancelled. What????
So we were so lucky (blessed!) that we got one of the very last rooms at the Holiday Inn and we could actually add on the extra night we now needed! Phew!
Upon leaving Waterton we finally got to see what the mountains looked like when they weren’t covered in smoke. And you guessed it : gorgeous!
The winds had been blowing for the last two days and now we had blue skies and big , puffy, Alberta clouds.
So we headed north and of course stopped along the way for a couple of “World’s Biggest” …or at least some ‘big’ things. Terry posed by a couple of large Eagles. We found the world’s biggest wind gauge in Lethbridge, Alberta. Next up, we visited the Lethbridge Japanese Gardens.
We paid for our tickets and entered into this lovely, little park with the hopes of finding a spot for a picnic even though it was extremely windy and about 34 degrees. We were told there was a green space to sit on the ground and eat but that is ‘not on’ for me anymore. A patron finally got up from his park bench resting spot, so Terry hurried back to snatch it as it was the only shaded bench we could see. He sat down and immediately got stung by a wasp. Ouch! He wasn’t feeling too ‘Zen’ at that moment…ha ha.
We had to shove our half sandwiches in our faces while another wasp tried to attack us so….. that was it for the ‘relaxing’ Japanese Garden day…ha ha.
