Calgary and Bragg Creek Visits
We lived in Calgary for 20 years and we loved it.
So it was fun to come back to this wonderful city for a short stay and visits with dear friends.
After a pretty terrible (old, cold, and overcooked) breakfast at the Holiday Inn, we decided to have a bit of a self guided, driving tour of the downtown and areas of Calgary.
I haven’t been to Calgary in years and it was fun to see all the changes since we’ve been away.
I enjoyed seeing the old sculptures and new buildings and the weather was absolutely perfect. After touring the downtown, we headed over to one of my favourite neighbourhoods: Inglewood, where we stopped for a bit of shopping and cuppa.
After that, we headed over to my bestie, Mary, and her husband, Mike’s home, for a delicious, homemade wraps lunch which we enjoyed on their sunny back deck. It was a delight to be with some of our oldest and dearest friends again and a feeling of comfort knowing we are all ‘double vaxed’. We had SO many laughs and great conversations. It was Mike’s birthday the following day so we got to wish him a happy one and Frodo, their poodle, was close by for lots of cuddles.
Next up, we said good-bye to our wonderful friends…(until we Zoom again)…and drove about 45 minutes west ,out of town to the pretty Bragg Creek.
“History: Bragg Creek is named after Albert Warren Bragg from Collingwood, Nova Scotia and his 14-year-old brother John Thomas who homesteaded in the area in 1894. The community was established between a forestry reserve, the Sarcee First Nations reserve and a Provincial Park.”
Terry and I enjoyed looking through all of the cute, western themed shops before meeting up with more wonderful friends. I used to teach with Bev at Calgary Academy when I was a brand new teacher and we have remained dear friends ever since. Our god-daughter, Alexandra, joined us and treated us all to the most tasty dinner at the “Old Farmhouse Restaurant”,which used to be…..an old farmhouse of course. It was so great to enjoy this several course meal of things like bruschetta, cream of asparagus soup, deep fried cheese balls, watermelon salad, salmon, and veal….to name most of the things we tried…all just excellent, with people we love and have missed during Covid.
Alex has worked and travelled all over the world and speaks several languages including Mandarin, Spanish, and French.
It feels so incredible to meet up with people (other than on Zoom after over a year) ….especially ones dear to our hearts.
Here are a few more Calgary shots……
