Recording the Bass
Me too, Grace. Me too.
When I write a song it’s just myself and my lonely guitar.
But in my head I always hear much more than that. I often hear full orchestrations and it makes me excited at the possibility of recording someday.
Recently I had the chance to have James Seabrook once again bring his portable equipment to my house (SO kind. He does this so I don’t have to maneuver the stairs at his studio) to record Terry’s bass.
I also invited my brother-in-law, Albert, over for encouragement and inspiration for us as he is a music teacher and very gifted in this way.
I loved his ideas and I loved how adaptable Terry was in basically being blindsided by a new bass lick idea…and then running with it. He did an incredible job of making each song better than it was before he added the bass.
James is also such an intuitive musician in his own right and has a great ‘ear’ . He can hear the tiniest mistake as well as bring his own ideas to the table for what might improve the song.
We had a ton of laughs too and the whole session only took one and a half days.
I am very excited to hear the mixing of our guitars, piano, drums and bass so far.
I think this will be my best album yet!
