Sweet Memories

The other day I read one of Jann Arden’s blogs where she talked about some of her Christmas memories and one of the things she mentioned was trying to find those boxes of “Lifesavers” that had all the different flavours inside.

We also used to receive those boxes for Christmas sometimes and sometimes our own children received them from Santa.

This got me thinking about sweets that were treats when I was a little girl. Do you remember any of the following….?

I remember going to Grandma and Grandpa’s house at Christmas and they always had a bowl of “Humbugs” about or candy “ribbons” or mixed, hard candies of all differents shapes, colours, and tastes. They were once-a-year treats and I loved them. Still to this day if I see those candies in a store I think of my grandparents.

When our children were little Santa sometimes brought them boxes of “Pocky” which were yummy, sweet sticks dipped in chocolate. And of course who doesn’t recognize the classic candy cane? Now they can be found in many different flavours and colours but back then they were just minty.

Today I had the pleasure of meeting up with two of my ‘besties’ in London, Ontario.

Barb and I drove up from Windsor and Rose drove down from her home in Waterloo. It was SO great to be together in person (although we missed our fourth ‘Musketeer’,Mert, from Calgary).

Rosemary gave us some sinfully delicious sweets that became instantly addictive for me…ha ha. You must look for chocolate covered pretzel balls and ‘reindeer crunch’. YUM!

What are some of your memories of treats from days gone by?
