Golf: The Great Teacher

My husband loves the game of golf. And he works hard at improving his skills as a golfer. During the pandemic, when all the courses were closed, he set up a simulator in our garage made out of moving blankets and continued to swing daily. He even improved on the quality of his homemade golf simulator by using his iPad to track his speed, etc. It was quite impressive.

Now that he has joined me out in Ontario he has had his golf season extended and had the opportunity of lots of fun games and even a tournament!

He golfs regularly with his 90 year old dad who has quite a good game still. They play nine holes.

Our brother-in-law, Dave, had the opportunity to golf at Ed’s club, Beach Grove, with Terry, Ed, and our nephew, Craig. Terry’s brother, Ted joined them for the ride. They all had a good day despite the drop in temperature this week. That was Dave’s first time at the club and he was super happy for the opportunity. Too bad Terry got in a fender bender as he was leaving Beach Grove. Ugh. (Some guy blasted in through the exit (!) as Terry was backing up. Sheesh. Thank God for insurance.)

And I think Terry’s best golf game time out here was a tournament set up with his high school buddies. (Some he hadn’t seen SINCE high school!)

Not only was he put on a Texas Scramble team with his best friend, Pete, but they won the tournament!

That evening we had the pleasure of having dinner with the trophy winners…ha ha…and it was so nice to be with Pete and Denise again.

They served up an incredible homemade cabbage roll dinner, complete with appies for starters, then ‘smashed’ potatoes with grilled onions, mixed bean salad, and freshly cut swirly rye bread. And I can’t forget to mention the pumpkin pie!

Golf is usually a solo game where one tries to improve on their own with each round. But I think for this trip, it has been a lesson in the bringing together of friendships and family.
