Kona People Watching

I love to “People Watch”. Sit me down in a busy place ….a beach or a busy city street …..it doesn’t matter. There are always interesting people to see.

We saw SO many funny hats and mismatched clothing choices, people in fun cars, or riding scooters, bikes, or motorcycles. It was just a blast.
The fellow in the second from the top photo sat on that same portion of rock wall every single day of our month away. I affectionately called him “Bob Ross” because of his big, curly hair and art supplies.

We saw lots of masks, bathing suits that were barely there, patriotic swimsuits, and outfits that were ‘very’ there on the hottests days.

We saw hats that kept the sun out ….and pants that were not quite up!

Movin’ or stoppin’ for shoppin’ people wore the most colourful clothing!

And people watching became “People meeting” when I went to the market or we met “Deb” from church and her cute little scooter. (As an aside, we met Deb the flautist and Walter, the pianist from St. Michael’s who heard us sing and have invited us to join the choir next January/February!)

But by far the best people watching moment was when I smiled at “Kale” who calls himself “The Flyin’ Hawaiian”!

Kale was quite the storyteller! We found out he has 18 kids, 36 grandchildren, speaks 12 languages, and was kicked out of Canada. He is homeless, has cancer, is a preacher, and plays several instruments.

Not sure I believe a word of it but he was a great character and he sat with us for awhile and chatted. We helped him out a bit with some cash and he presented me with a Hawaiian necklace that he handpainted. ( He didn’t but I do like it…ha ha) . He also gave me about 10 packs of ancient crackers for our grandkids but they didn’t make it home…ha ha again.

What a way to end our very last evening in Kona.

It’s been a great time!
