G’Oilers !

Our church (St. John the Evangelist) decided to throw a big party during the second round of the playoffs.

Our beloved Oilers made it past the Los Angeles Kings to advance to playing the Vegas Knights but we lost the first round in that game.

It was really fun to dress up in our gear again because we gave up our 20 year standing tickets at the Roger’s Place arena during the start of Covid. The crowds were just too big and we didn’t feel safe from illness.

It’s been a long time since we have been able to celebrate being in the playoffs and what a fun way to do it with a group of like minded people from our parish.

The CWL put on a really fun event with great decorations and fun treats for the night. We each had a hotdog ,‘Bubly” pop to drink, a Rice Krispie square, and popcorn too! The place was filled with young families and there was chocolate to munch on as well.

I loved watching the ‘cool’ kids (with their sunglasses handed to them by Fr. Dean) cheering right along with the grownups and there was lots to cheers about as the Oilers outshot their opponents by quite a margin. There were streamers flying, toddlers spun around, and children enjoying the balloons as much as the game.

Soon Fr. Dean announced our 50/50 draw (Just like at the arena ….but not quite the payoff….ha ha) and it was fun to see that a young boy won $100. for his half of the prize. He was so excited.

I get nervous the whole time because I want our team to win so badly….especially because we have the best player in the league and he’s never won (Connor McDavid).

But I needn’t have worried as we did win this round with a score of 5 to 1. WooHOOOOO!

LET’S GO OILERS!!!!!
