Parish Picnic

Community.

There is something wonderful about being part of a community.

And being a part of a church community can uplift you in a different way from having your personal relationship with God.

I’ll never forget how my friends at church took care of me when I had my hip replacements. Ha ha….if anything we might have had TOO many casseroles delivered !

It feels good to be involved in one or two of the many options of ministries at the church from proclaiming The Word , to being a part of the Finance Committee, to being a part of the Women’s League. We probably have over 20 groups to get involved with at our parish.

I am part of this last group and I am the Music Minister at our church, St. John The Evangelist. I love trying to organize the groups and although this is not always an easy task, I was honoured to be asked to do it and I try my best. I enjoy leading the music once a month with my husband and I are blessed to have so many musical choirs/groups that if we are away we can always find someone to take our place. There are youth choirs, guitar led groups, an organist, a soloist who plays piano, and many more! We have also sung at weddings and funerals too. So many ways to give!

We are blessed to have the young Fr. Dean Dowle as our priest. He is constantly organizing important (and fun!) events to bring people together (and sometimes we even raise money!) and the recent Parish Picnic is a good example.

It was so much fun to gather together, young and old, to meet our fellow parishioners, chat awhile, perhaps play games, and have your typical barbecue fare of hamburgers and hotdogs as well as your choice of snacks and homemade desserts. Yum!

Although my greatest joy is receiving communion at mass, it is wonderful to feel a great sense of community when you are a part of a church. ( By the way, the man to our left in that last photo is our friend, Ben. He is 99 ! )

I highly recommend it!

You are not alone!
