New Year Celebrations

I pulled on my ‘holey’ jeans and my long sleeved t-shirt for a relaxing day at home on New Year’s Eve. It always feels good to enjoy the quiet after the busyness of Christmas with our beloved families.

But Terry suggested we take some time to celebrate ‘ringing in’ the new year with some nice meals out!

We had a lovely lunch at the Cactus Club Cafe near West Edmonton Mall and I’m glad we made the effort to get out of the house!

After an afternoon of photography (mine), Terry practicing his golf at the simulator, and some jobs around the house we decided at the very last minute to try and find a restaurant that would still have a table for us on New Year’s Eve. We thought the chances were pretty low but…. lo and behold we found one in a pretty restaurant near our home!

“Violino” is a restaurant found in a converted old house just behind “high street'‘.

We found a table on the main floor and had the pleasure of taking our time for the next two and a half hours to enjoy a 5 course meal in their set menu. Wow!

Terry and I rarely do the fine dining thing. It’s just too expensive and quite frankly we’ve often enjoyed other meals that are a quarter of the price and much tastier.

But that night we really did enjoy the offerings at Violino. We started off with an appetizer plate that had all kinds of delicious meats, cheeses, olives, and other yummy things. And a cutting board arrived with a hot loaf of fresh bread and an oil and vinegar bowl in which to dip it.

Our caesar salads were also very very good with fresh croutons atop and the lettuce cut finely so it was easier to scoop up!

The wee marinated peach filled with sorbet and drizzled in balsamic glaze was the perfect palette cleanser.

Terry enjoyed his steak dinner and my ravioli was also perfect.

Finally, we each chose the crepe for dessert and it was also wonderful.

It really was a special way to celebrate the last night of 2022!
