Epiphany
Today is the feast of the Epiphany!
Madonna House at the Marian Centre downtown only invites the public into their ‘home’ once a month for mass.
Because of this, on the feast day of the Solemnity of Mary, the Mother of God and the World Day of Peace, we headed over there to celebrate an early Epiphany celebration .
Fr. Blair led the service with grace and he is so learned that his sermon was extremely interesting and well presented too. After some joyful singing of the final hymn, “Hark The Herald Angels Sing”, we were all invited downstairs for a feast and a chance to actually meet the 3 Kings!
The Kings each held a basket in which we were to choose one ‘gift’. It sure seems like the Holy Spirit guided us towards the gift we were meant to think about because everyone I spoke with said that they chose the perfect one!
I chose “Praise” and one lady who has been very ill happened to choose “Healing”. Such a novel and unique idea!
The Kings walked around the entire room while handing out the gifts while folks sang “We Three Kings”. Then it was time to break bread with the congregation and our hosts.
We saw many old friends and pulled down our masks to take a few photos and to partake of the lovely spread of foods.
Our friends at the Marian Centre also baked 3 fairly large loaves each of which contained a coin. If you chose a slice of bread in which was found a coin you were to ring the bell on the wall (we heard it ring 3 times!) and then you had the extra gift of praying for the world for one hour sometime that day.
I love the traditions that Madonna House uphold. It is a blessing to be a part of some of them.
