Advent

14 days until Christmas.

How do you prepare?

Do you make cookies? Do you decorate your home, inside and out, and put up your pretty tree?

Do you ever think about the Christmas story? About God? Or have you taken the “Christ” out of Christmas?

For me this is the busiest time of year.

I want my home to be beautiful …..we even change over all of the paintings to ones that depict winter scenes. And although I won’t have to do cards this year because of the postal strike I am trying to get together with dear friends throughout the month.

Did you know that although we might not be looking for God ….that he is looking for us?

Brian Morykon says this is by design. “God hides in plain sight’ though he deeply desires to be found. …..Think of how many people were physically close to Jesus from cradle to cross without knowing who was in their midst. God was literally and tangibly with them and they didn’t know it. But Mary knew, and she kept the knowing near her heart.”

There’s a line in my husband’s play, “Dream” that has one of the characters saying…” I’ll believe it when I see it.” The response from his classmate is, “No, you’ll see it when you believe it”.

Do you feel alone this year? Are you feeling empty, sad, or fearful? Do you need a friend?

Maybe this is the year you can take a few minutes to try and see the reality. Try and believe so you can see.

Because Christmas is more than just presents. It is the presence of God in our lives, a loving God who is right beside us and is waiting for us to call out to him….” I need you, Lord”.

Then we will have a Merry Christmas indeed. A “Mary” and Jesus Christmas. God is waiting to be found and so are we!

One step at a time this Advent.

Love is calling us. Let’s answer with a……”Yes. Please!”
