Redwater

Do you like to go on road trips?

I know you are well aware that WE do…ha ha.

Well, we had a audiobook to finish up and it was a gorgeous day soooooo off we went!

We decided to head north east this time and we started off with a peek into ‘Greenland’ garden centre. Lovely selection there and a really nice restaurant too. (We’d been there before.)

This was a particularly fun day because we had NO agenda and no plan in mind.

Now. I know that some of you would find that stressful and need to know where you are going and where you’ll end up. And there’s nothing wrong with that.

But we also like to just pick a direction and head out, hoping that we will see some neat photo opportunities or just that we might find a nice town we’ve never been to. And that, my friends, turned out to be the town of Redwater.

Redwater is a town in the Edmonton Metropolitan Region of Alberta, Canada that is surrounded by Sturgeon County. It is located on Highway 38, approximately 52 km north of Edmonton. Its population was 2,053 in the 2016 census.

We were driving down one back road when we happened to see an intriguing sign called “The Den of Antiquity”. Hmmm. We enjoy searching around antique stores so we took the next road to see if they were actually open. They were!

We met Victoria and Bob who showed us the ‘lay of the land’ and boy, did they have a lot of it. AND they had at least 4 buildings in which to shop around as well as stuff all over the ground. Fun!

It took us about an hour to pick through all their sections of surplus. We ended up finding a few treasures including some wooden potato mashers (which we collect) and 2 old yardsticks to help us with our paintings back home.

After saying good-bye to the owners (Victoria kindly gave us some wonderful cuttings/seeds from here gorgeous flowers too) we drove into the town proper to see if we could find some lunch.

The town wasn’t in the greatest shape but we had an excellent lunch at “Kick’s” and any person we met that afternoon was super nice.

After our lunches (I loved my quesadilla) we headed over to “Noreen And Friends” for yet some more antique shopping.

Once again I found a few treasures in the form of glassware, placemats, and a pretty vase. Then we ordered coffees and cookies to go for our hour long drive home.

Our audiobook “Dead Eyes” is SO much fun . I recommend it for sure and we actually finished it that day (after many other days of listening to the 30 plus episodes.)

If you go to Redwater have lunch at Kick’s!
