'Akaka Falls and Volcano

We decided to drive around the entire Big Island to show my sister, Pam, and brother-in-law Dave, the views ….including the almost prehistoric looking ‘Akaka Falls and then the town of Volcano.

It was an especially glorious day as we had no rain in the usually rainy town of Hilo.

We also stopped by a wee petting zoo and picked up some salted caramels that rivalled Alberta’s “Kick Ass” caramels….”Goat Milk Caramels”.

After a strenuous hike with way too many stairs to see the beautiful falls…we continued on to Hilo for a quick lunch before heading off to hopefully see an active volcano.

Our authentic Mexican lunch was really good and then we rushed off to get stuck in a mystery traffic jam …ha ha. But soon we made it in time to the town of Volcano to see the incredible steam vents before we walked up to the …..not so active volcano.

It was so neat to feel the remarkable heat coming off of the vents and to see Dave emerging from the mist! Then it was off to a wonderful dinner at Ohelo restaurant for a great pizza and caesar salad meal.
