Getting Control
We’ve just celebrated a very happy Easter.
But sometimes it’s still hard to see God’s hand in everything when there are so many guns in people’s hands.
I recently read some statistics: in the first 85 days of the year there were ONE HUNDRED AND THIRTY mass killings in Nashville alone. MASS killings.
There have been 1,468 mass killings since Biden became president and 50,000 deaths associated with guns in that time.
We’ve seen more killings in my own city of Edmonton too. I didn’t used to feel unsafe when I went downtown.
Even the Marian Centre who spend their lives feeding and clothing the homeless have had to put up a large, chain link fence around the property for safety after one of their members almost lost his life .
Yes, God is still with us but he has given us free will.
I’m going to try and breathe and forgive today. There are so many sorry souls who come from broken backgrounds and who have experienced unspeakable horrors. But we need to pray that governments will lobby for gun control. If the angry/marginalized/unwell people don’t have access to guns then they will find other ways to take our their anger out on humanity. But perhaps children in schools or people going about their daily shopping, etc., will have a chance against this type of rage.
God help us.
