A Big Island
It seemed so weird to go from a ‘winter wonderland’ to an ‘island wonderland’ but that’s exactly what we did after our week in Rosebud.
Travelling is so unnerving these days what with stories of hundreds upon hundreds of luggage lost, flights cancelled or changed, and bad weather to contend with …to name but a few things.
But we decided to take a chance and try and escape a good portion of winter like the good ‘snowbirds’ we used to be before Covid started.
And speaking of flight changes, good thing Terry checked one more time before we tried to leave the next day because indeed our first flight was starting off a good 2 hours earlier than we were told!
We had actually pre-packed for Hawaii at the same time we packed our carry-ons for Rosebud so that we could make the quick turnaround. I always worry about those winter roads and although we had a beautiful drive home from Rosebud, our morning brought with it freezing rain. Ugh!
But we managed to have an uneventful ride to the airport and for the next 3 flights everything was pretty much on time.
On the United Airlines section from San Francisco to Kona we were amazed to see our son’s show on the screen. He directs for Disney and there it was! The clouds looked so pretty the closer we got and when we finally landed after a very long day of travel we were gratified to see that our luggage had made it too.
After setting up the room and unpacking we got to bed in the wee hours of the morning but thanks be to God the bed in our VRBO is comfortable or it would have been a very long four weeks. (Unfortunately the ‘accessible’ place we booked actually does have stairs to get up to the elevator but that’s just the way it has to be. Not what we were assured though.)
I’m feeling very blessed to be among the palms and warm breezes.
