My City.
I’ve come to love my city.
When I lived in Calgary for 20 years I thought I’d live there forever. I made ‘forever friends’ and they are what I miss about the city most of all now that we’ve relocated north.
When we had to move to Edmonton for Terry’s work I was devastated. Ugh. I couldn’t imagine leaving beautiful Calgary and all whom we loved.
But early on in Terry’s new job we had a chance to move back to Calgary and I realized that I was already in love with my new city. So the family agreed. Let’s give it a go for a year.
We’ve now lived in Edmonton for 21 years and have met new forever friends, had wonderful careers, and are now in a place that despite the pandemic we can truly enjoy the beauty of our own city.
EXPLORE EDMONTON says…..
“ We camp with bison, party under the aurora, and surf on the prairies. From the continent's first, biggest and wildest Fringe Theatre Festival to a shopping mall that at one time had more submarines than the Canadian navy, Edmontonians have never been afraid to do things a little differently.
Why is Edmonton different? There are theories. Maybe it’s our northern home, where for years we’ve learned to make our own fun. Perhaps it’s our legacy of entrepreneurs dreaming up oddities: deep freezer races, winter patios and surfing indoors. Perhaps it’s the foundation of natural beauty, from which we’ve built something great. Take your taste buds on a journey to some of the hottest craft beer taprooms and hyper-local bistros, experience the glory of the northern lights from our dark sky preserves, or cruise through North America’s largest stretch of urban parkland. There’s a uniqueness to how Edmontonians do ordinary things, and we welcome you to be a part of it.”
Edmonton is the Capital city of Alberta. We are called the ‘Gateway to Canada’s North’.Edmonton’s river valley is apparently 22 times the size of New York’s Central Park! We have one of Canada’s sunniest cities and can reach up to 17 hours of daylight in the summer. You can see the Northern Lights on a regular basis….so beautiful. Jasper is only a few hours away and Edmonton is fully accessible through VIA RAIL. We are also a huge ‘ Festival City’ with over 50 a year! My favourite is The
Fringe but the Folk Fest is a close second. I long for the days we can gather again.
So: I have a challenge for you.
Why not tell me about one (or more!) of your favourite experiences/structures/nature views in YOUR city in the comments? I’d love to hear about why you have pride in your own place of residence.
