An Oilers Cinderella Story
Well, as we all know now, our beloved Edmonton Oilers lost in game 7 to the Florida Panthers.
So why don’t we feel sad?
Here are some stats from the newspaper that I just read…..
Robert Tychkowski from the Journal writes:
“Connor McDavid had the most points by a forward since Wayne Gretzky and Mario Lemieux in the 1980’s and ‘90’s.
Evan Bouchard had the most points by a defenceman since Paul Coffey and Brian Leetch.
Zach Hyman had the most goals by any active player in the league.
They had the best penalty killing in the playoffs and
Their toughness and resilience got them one game away from being etched in Stanley Cup lore forever.”
Not only that but Connor won most valuable player!
The hockey games brought our city ( and other cities!) together in a great way : cheering, costumes, fun!
We all thought the Oilers were out when they lost 10 of their first 12 games. But THEN they went on a 16 game winning streak. It was incredible!
Our families watched together in one of their homes in Vancouver, our Seattle girl and her hubby watched in a bar, we watched at home, and other family members and friends kept in touch by texting with us all evening. More fun! The games brought families together!
Did the Oilers win the cup? No, not this time.
Did they win over our hearts? Yes, everytime.
