The Fringe 2024
What a fabulous Fringe we had this year! We haven’t been attending since Covid because we didn’t want to be in crowds but this year we attended seven shows and it was a blast!
During the first day it rained for a wee bit but I loved catching the photo of the double rainbow. Our first show was a CBC improv about a ‘call in’ show and it was so funny. I think the topics they chose from the audience were ‘hot tubs’ and ‘not being able to scratch your back’….ha ha.
We enjoyed a two man show called “Inescapable” which was a about 2 friends caught in a time warp and the “Murder Café” a weird dramady about serial killers. We saw a new musical called “Rob and Chris” which had outstanding performances but needed some editing.
We saw a musical about a cruise ship show in the Klondike days which needed some serious direction but had some fun moments and we met old friends on the street and a new friend ,Mia, our waitress at The Next Act pub.
By far our favourite show to date was “Alison Wunderland” at the Garneau Theatre. I voted for it as “Best of the Fringe” in fact.
It had a huge screen which enhanced the action at certain points, tons of local Edmonton references, incredible acting, dancing, singing, costumes, direction, and it was a send up of the original Alice in Wonderland of course.
And our final show was a stand-up comedian called Aliya Kanani. She was pretty funny but had quite a bit of sexually themed humour which we didn’t love.
Another successful Fringe after years of trusting the idea of getting back into crowds. Glad we went.
