Hinges

“ Little hinges swing big doors.”

Let’s do something great today!

How can we make a difference?

I’ve been watching things unfold in the world and wishing there was something I could do about some of them. Any of them. All of them?

There is so much hatred. So much devastation. It’s enough to make me come unhinged!

Did you read/hear about the latest person to barrel down people with his van? Five people were killed and 48 were hurt when an SUV driver smashed into a Christmas parade in Waukesha, Wisconsin, on Sunday afternoon.

We read about floods and hurricanes and of course the ever present Covid 19. The list goes on and on and yet we can’t do anything to help. Or…can we? We might not be able to change the world all at once but I believe there are ways that we can help.

In our own cities we can look to make a difference and here are some examples :

Social impact is defined as the “effect an organization’s (or individual’s) actions have on the well being of the community.” For example, the organization Habitat For Humanity has a positive social impact on communities by providing houses for the poor. Did you know that you can offer to volunteer for this organization ….even if you don’t know a thing about building houses? I did and it was a great experience . ( Don’t worry, they kept me away from the power tools…ha ha)

Be a sponsor or join a cause. Googling ‘join a cause’ will result in millions of responses from supporting children to the elderly. Whatever you get involved in will advance the cause greatly because of your actions. Pick one thing to start so you don’t get overwhelmed.

Start your own campaign or raise awareness. Is there something that you feel strongly passionate about? Use your voice and speak out. Many of the world’s ‘movers and shakers’ were just simple people like us who had an idea and went for it.

Contribute money or your time or your talents. Pick an organization close to home and make a difference in your own part of the world. Start small and you will be amazed at how grateful folks will be and how good YOU will feel too. If you don’t have money to give then perhaps you have the time to sit with a lonely senior or call them once a week. If you are good at something like…cooking…you could bring a meal to a busy mum on your street or bake something for a friend. Bringing joy to others can have a massive happiness ripple effect.

And don’t forget to pray. Our prayers can move mountains. Believe it. I’ve witnessed actual miracles. And we are told where two or three gather, Jesus is in our midst. We’re not alone!

Does anything hinge on our tiny part in trying to change the world for the better? YES! Everything!
