A SWEET WEEKEND
What a sweet weekend!
Terry talked me into leaving my photo album project to get out into the sun for a lovely picnic. The days are already feeling cooler and they are certainly shorter on sunshine so it didn’t take too much convincing.
He’s at least been golfing almost every day so he’s had plenty of vitamin D and lots of time with friends.
That evening we had the blessing of being with more friends and what a sweet time that was as well.
It was a delightful time of catching up with two of our former church choir members and their spouses. The wine was flowing and so was the excellent conversation. Kathy and Michael set up such beautiful tables and their home is gorgeous too. AND they made me a believer in lamb for dinner as Michael cooked up the best barbequed lamb I’ve ever tasted. YUM!
After a dinner that included freshly cooked vegetables from their garden, we were treated to the sweetest dessert : Kathy’s homemade pavlova. A game of Wizard finished off the perfect evening. What a joy to be with those (fully vaccinated) friends again.
Saturday was another sweet treat for us: our friend Anne came up from Calgary for a visit.
I met Anne at least 36 years ago when we were in Theatre 80! We had children about the same time and have been fast friends since those days. We started our own theatre company called, “Short and Tall Tales” . “Short” Anne would read her original tall tale about a dinosaur or two and I myself “Tall”, would sing my original tunes along the same theme.
So, ironically, Anne was in town for A Dinosaur Tale produced by Jeff Perry about ….Dinosaurs! (at the Jubilee Auditorium). Although I didn’t feel comfortable to be in a theatre with a bunch of strangers at this point due to rising Covid numbers again, I know Anne was also doubly vaccinated so I picked her up after the show to come to our home for dinner.
Terry was an absolutely sweet guy as usual . He decided to get the entire dinner together for us, AND set up the back yard furniture, AND bake a homemade, sweet Angel Food Cake with fresh fruit for dessert. (He also cleaned up the whole kitchen afterwards so I could continue to visit with my dear friend.)
We had a great time giving Anne a tour of our home which she has never seen up till now, sharing new music with her, and more great conversation. She said she needed to dub our home : “The House of Inspiration” because of all the creative things we do there. She is wildly creative herself ; a teacher, musician, and artist too.
And to cap off the sweet weekend we met our dear friends, Jazz and our godson, Noah at mass and then headed off to our favourite breakfast place, Hap’s, for more wonderful chats and food.
It was off to my usual Sunday morning Zoom call after that with my three sweet besties.
What a sweet sweet weekend. They can’t be all this perfect so I’ll thank God for my blessings…and eat more sweet cake!
