A Prayer/Poem
“ Heavenly God,
Peace, peace, peace.
How we long for this – this peace that only you can give:
The Godly peace in which our hearts long to live.
As we wake up to another day another hour,
We wish that you will give us some kind of power.
A power to help, a power to heal, a power to care.
Oh God, how much in our world are we unaware.
We ask for your presence to go out to all:
All these souls for whom your name they call.
In Kabul, Afghanistan where your children may have no tomorrow,
For all the unthinkable that is to come, we lift up their fear and sorrow.
We pray that somehow your peace may wash over your people,
And that they may not experience any more evil.
May we sit in the anguish of so many killed even from where we are,
We lift up the souls of over 100 murdered, and grieve with our neighbors even from afar.
We lift up Africa, Asia and the Pacific where Covid variants cause us to fear.
May these strains be mild, and may the way to healing appear.
As we experience damaged homes, lives lost, and lives changed forever.
After the Earthquake Tropical Storm in Haiti, we ask for loved ones to be together.
As Hurricane Ida destroyed the homes, businesses, and took lives,
We lift up your people in Louisiana, USA, and pray as more damage continues to arise.
God, we lift up all the natural disasters that are to come this season,
And pray that only you will continue to be our beacon,
As we experience further devastation, turmoil, and hurt,
May you be our peace and in you alone may we be immersed.
We pray for the trauma of all of your children – of our neighbor,
The trauma we know and the trauma in silence in which they labor.
For the hostages in Araçatuba, Brazil as robbers used them as human shields,
We pray that your peace may be with them and may they be healed.
God of peace, there is so much more that we long to share,
A world of trauma and hurt, but also things we don’t understand:
So much more that only you in your amazing peace can bear.
We give it all to you in your gentle and kind hand.
As we lift all of this, we lift to your our gratitude and love
That only comes from you in your gentle peace from above.”
Amen.
