East Coast Sunset

Going to paint at the Marian Centre is a little scary these days. And that’s a sign of our world and the shape it’s in today.

To get to the building one has to maneuver through ‘tent city’ and the unfortunate, marginalized people who have set up the huge camps downtown.

And since the good folks with Madonna House feed the poor this is where to find them.

The scary part is that many of them are under the influence of something that makes them in a ‘situation’ and they might not be in control of their actions. That is why there is a huge, chain link fence around the property now and a very heavy, locked door that I must open when I go there.

I feel more confident when I’m not alone but I still want to paint there and feel the joy of being with our friends who live at The Marian Centre. That is why I drove over to finish my painting the other day despite the fact that I was by myself.

Everything was fine because I made sure no one was in the alley and I was able to leave my car and unlock and open the massive gate and then drive in a close it again. Phew.

Here is my latest painting! It is a 16 X 20 acrylic on black canvas, sunset view in P.E.I. that our friend, Deb took. She was one of the folks that had us stay at her home in St. John’s Newfoundland when we were on tour with our music.
