My Bad Buddy
Who is my ‘bad buddy’? Well, my daughter, Emily Bachynski is the lead singer and composer in this band.
Terry and I drove down to Calgary to hear the band and some of their brand new music and I had the pleasure of meeting up with my dear friend, Anne Hodgson while Terry had some meetings in town.
I was treated to a lovely lunch at the Lazy Loaf where we ended up leaving at 3:30 pm. Lots to catch up on! That evening Terry and I were supposed to meet up with another dear friend for dinner and that meet up didn’t happen when we were kept apart by a traffic accident on Glenmore Trail that kept us stuck in traffic for over an hour. We didn’t have time to go across the city to pick up Terry at his hotel, drive all the way back west and then all the back east yet again for the concert. Next time!
We parked and walked past a colourful basketball court to the wonderful venue.
Meant to be because when we drove to the National Music Center we got one of the precious few tables there. We had a great view of the stage and had a nice dinner there too!
Bad Buddy was having sound check when we walked in so that was fun! They all had their spangly, spare costumes on and I noticed this one lady at the table in front of ours poking her partner in the ribs and kind of making fun of them. Well it took ONE song in for the crowd to go crazy and before you know it that table was also on their feet and rockin’ to the great original tunes that Emily wrote.
The music was so tight, the harmonies just right on, and they all looked like they were having SO much fun. Bad Buddy engaged the audience and it was just a blast! It was funny when Em pointed out that her parents were in the audience. Because at the end of the show we actually had people shaking OUR hands and telling us that we must be so proud. YES! One couple about our age came up to us after and said that they were visiting from Australia and just wanted to hear some live music. They told us that they feel like they lucked out because the show was so great. Wow!
We of course wore our new Bad Buddy shirts and pins and represented…ha ha.
What the CIBC Summer Series said about Bad Buddy……
About Bad Buddy:
“Tight-as-can-be three-part harmonic explosions wrapped in a gritty, primal, snarling exterior, Bad Buddy (Edmonton, Alberta) is a force to be reckoned with. The electric energy of their live show is only amplified by the exceptional songwriting ability possessed by the band. The female-fronted Motown-surf-punk band commands attention, painting powerful, sonic pictures drawn from real-life inspirations.
Bad Buddy released their debut album in July of 2020, reaching #1 on Earshot, followed by single, “Mind Control” (June 2021). These releases were preceded by EP, The Sneakie Peakie.”
Bad Buddy is Emily Bachynski (guitar, vocals), Andi Vissia (guitar, vocals), and Geoffrey Hamdon-O’Brien (drums).
