Lovely Lacombe (part one)
The weather proclaimed a high of +18 so Terry and I decided to take a small road trip south to the interesting town of Lacombe.
It’s 125 kms south of Edmonton which is about an hour and a half away so we packed up our game (Tile Rummy) and headed out to listen to our audiobook (Sabrielle) and enjoy the sunshine.
What I didn’t expect was how interesting the city would turn out to be.
Do you remember the blog I did about Chemainus in British Columbia ? This is the town that was famous for its murals.
I was very surprised to find out that Lacombe also has incredible murals but amazingly they were all done by ONE man!
Tim Giles is the man behind all the murals. Tim moved to Lacombe in 2003 and was quickly noticed by the Town of Lacombe's “Communities in Bloom” committee. In 2004 he was hired by the “Lacombe Mural Project” committee to paint Lacombe's past.
If possible the back of Lacombe’s buildings are even more beautiful than the fronts (and you will see in ‘part two’ that the building faces are full of wonderful character. )
I was just out taking a photo of one of the iconic buildings in town when I noticed one of the murals peeking out from an alley. We then went for a walk back there and were surprised to find SO many gorgeous paintings.
People need to know!
At certain angles you actually had a difficult time distinguishing real doors and windows from painted ones.
Well done, Tim Giles, and to Lacombe for beautifying your city in this way!
To be continued…..
