THE TRUE LIGHT
Last night Terry and I made yummy hot chocolate/coffee combos, poured them in our thermos’ and drove down to Whyte Avenue to see “Light Up The Night On Whyte”.
The city has gone to a lot of trouble to wrap dozens of trees downtown with hundreds and hundreds of lights.
Even without these beautiful light displays there are so many lights in our cities that it is hard to see the stars. This season we are called to think about the ‘Light of the World’ . One of my favourite poets, Malcolm Guite, a dear friend of singer/songwriter ,Steve Bell,(another one of my favourite artists) describes Advent like this:
“Advent! A holy season in which we connect again with our ‘inconsolable longing,’ as C.S. Lewis called it—our yearning for the One who is to come and is also, mysteriously, the One who has come already—come as a child, come as fellow-sufferer, come as Saviour, and yet whose coming, already achieved, we hold at bay from ourselves, so that we have to learn afresh each year, even each day, how to let Him come to us again.”
With all the distractions in our lives; the glaring lights, the destructive sounds, the hatred and disasters we read about that lead to fear …and worse….I want to try and let my small light shine.
I want to let Christ shine through me and bring His light to others . And just like the moon reflects the light of the sun, let me reflect the light of the Son.
