FEELIN’ CRAFTY
There’s something about this ‘lockdown’ time that is making me feel like doing Christmas crafts.
I am generally not that interested in ‘crafts’ as much as painting for example, but I have had a blast spending time designing ,shopping for, and putting together some pretty things for this year’s Christmas decorating.
This first thing I did was choose three of my antique teacups for the base of my mini Christmas trees. I have quite a large collection of teacups because A) I love tea and B) I love collecting pretty things. I grew up with a British Dad who loves his tea in a teacup and he still does!
My number one assistant (Terry!)went to Home Depot so that we could put a soft, cement- like filling in the cups so that A) The trees would stand up and B) there would be some weight to the base to handle the decorations.He also had to cut off the original, larger base that wouldn’t fit in the cups.
At the dollar store I found some ‘bottle brush’ trees but not the colour I wanted.(This was after I had to return a shipment of these trees back to Amazon as they were WAY too teeny.) So my assistant spray painted them white for me. It took several trips around the city to finally find the tiny ornaments in the colours I was looking for but we finally did it. (I wanted mostly an old fashioned, Victorian look so I looked for silvers and pale pinks.) I found pink necklaces at Value Village too and that is the first thing I wrapped around the mini trees.The wee decorations were found at 3 different Dollaramas, a Canadian Tire, two Walmarts, and a Michael’s.
Finally, I spent hours designing and glueing each piece into each tree. I used ‘E-6000’ glue which is very strong but takes about a minute for each piece to take hold. You must be patient.
I will use these three tiny Christmas trees as part of my Christmas table decor this year. Terry and I might be the only ones to see and enjoy them but I have had fun making them anyway. (I’m also glad that Terry was so much help for me.) AND I got to share them…with YOU!
