Solanus Casey and the Royal Treat Tea House

It was gorgeous but very hot day when Barb and I headed over to Detroit to check out the Solanus Casey Pilgrimage Center. First she picked me up from the Holiday Inn and we went off to a lovely morning mass.

After grabbing coffees at Timmy’s we drove over to Detroit. Good ole’ GPS got us there in no time and we were about to learn about beloved Blessed Solanus.

The center is large, clean, and has a real contemplative feel to it. There are places to pray, to rest, to eat, to shop, and a museum inside…all about Blessed Solanus Casey.

I really enjoyed learning about this ‘saint in waiting’ and his journey from one of 13 children at home to his humble ‘door keeper’ role for the church.

After our enjoyable self guided tour Barb took me out for lunch at a place we’d never been before : a teahouse called ‘The Royal Treat’.

It wasn’t very full that day so it suited us very well! We felt like we had a private area with only 2 more table full.

The tea selection was huge and the Queen Anne tea we chose was delicious. So were the inhouse made scones with which we started (!) our meals.

Jennifer, the owner said they were her mother’s recipe and they were fresh, sweet, and yummy.

We each ordered quiche for lunch and they came with a most delicious salad too. I never expected to have lunch with the Queen but we did ! Ha ha.

Barb had a stop to make after lunch so I enjoyed taking photos of buildings I found interesting to look at.

A BIG thank you to Bubbles for the wonderful day!
