Without Music

Sometimes I wonder how to write about something beautiful when the world seems to be falling apart.

The news can be so devastating that I can almost feel ‘guilty’ writing about positive things.

But I was listening to my new Carolyn Arends C.D., “Recognition” and her new song,”Without Music” (where she has a duet with Amy Grant!), and I was reminded of something important.

Even in the worst of times music can lift us up.

It can pull us together and remind us what is good, what is lovely, what is holy, and take us to a place outside of ourselves…a place of hope.

The chorus of the song says….

“So I guess this is my song for all the ones

Who keep singing as the world comes undone

Like a broken hallelujah, their melodies soar

Till the world’s not quite so broken anymore”

I think of those musicians on the Titanic who kept playing as the ship went down.

So if your ‘ship is sinking’ and so are your spirits… listen to some music…and regain your footing.
