The Covid Conundrum
Covid exhaustion. People are so sick of wearing masks …”Masking up”, and drying out their hands with hand sanitizer, and avoiding close contact with others.
Don’t get me wrong : I’m tired of these safety rules too.
I’m absolutely thrilled that my whole family is doubly vaccinated and that I’ve been able to see them, be with them, and hug them again.
But just when our Covid ‘numbers’ were going down and staying down, folks got anxious and did things like opening up huge festivals (Like the Calgary Stampede) and announcing things like, “Our province is now OPEN !”
How can a year and a half of suffering due to this dreaded disease be so seemingly instantly forgotten?People are coming toward us to shake our hands again. Many people have refused to get the vaccines offered. Good friends of ours are saying the whole thing was a government conspiracy and all a hoax.
And guess what? The numbers are rapidly rising once again….just as our children are heading back to school. UGH.
Do I want all of the stores and restaurants and other businesses to stay open? You bet I do!
But we need to get to this oft spoken of “Herd Immunity” so that we can travel again and have less stress and fear about this awful disease.
Diseases have been eradicated this way .
Smallpox: The U.S. announced smallpox eradicated in 1972. Less than a decade later, it became the first and only disease eliminated worldwide.
2. Polio: A polio vaccine was unveiled in 1955, and the disease was declared eliminated by 1979.
We can DO this! But we need to come together as a community, as a planet, and get vaccinated for the sake of others.
How many more people have to get ill? How many more have to die? ( The United States alone has had 633 thousand deaths from Covid!)
So please. If you’re reading this and you still haven’t chosen to get the vaccine, book your appointment today. And let me be the first to shake your hand.
