High School Reunion
I decided to take myself off to Windsor’s “The Golden Razor” for a haircut and to straighten my curls in anticipation of my ‘high school reunion”.
I so rarely have this pleasure….especially since Covid…that it is even more fun! So I was all ‘dolled up’ and ready to meet some of my dearest friends from home.
Every year (before Covid stopped us) when I would fly home I would organize a get together with my friends from grade school/high school.
I’ve been friends with my bestie, Cathy Reese, since we were THREE years old and we lived across the street from each other. It is such a blessing to have her in my life still.
So this year I booked a table for us at the new “Harbour House” restaurant.
It was fantastic that they arranged our table into a large square so that we could hear most of the conversations and see each other easily.
Omigosh! These girls looked good! And everyone of us is still married. Carmen’s story is especially fun because she and her boyfriend, Rob, were prom king and queen and they are still together to this day. That is them in the photos above and to the right today.
Tamra (first photo above with Carmen) got us out of our sad discussions about who was sick and had died by asking for each one of us to tell a happy story that had recently happened . That was one of the best parts of the evening. Such a good idea.
And the food was copious and delicious at the old “Lilly Kazilly’s” . I enjoyed my “Italian” green salad and fettuccini with chicken dinner. I also indulged myself with a nice glass of good Riesling.
Tammy and I took some silly poses. She said we had to make the “Teno Scary Eye Greeting”.
I’m sad that so many of our other friends were not able to make it like “the twins”:Dawn and Donna, Monique, Diane, and Anne C, but maybe next year, God willing.
Could I have ever imagined that some of these girls that I met in Kindergarten would still be in my life today? Not really. But I sure am glad that they are !
P.S. The girls were telling me about our old friend ,Fred Quenneville, and that he is very ill. They described about where he is living in proximity to my parents’ house and they said he can often be seen sitting in his wheelchair on the front porch. So I took a detour on the way to my folks’ and lo and behold Fred was just being taken into the house. I called out his name and said that it was “Laura Drew”. He yelled out a ‘hello’ so I pulled into the driveway and had a brief visit (in the rain) with our old friend from grade school. What a ‘God moment’ to be able to see him at that exact moment.
