More Eggs

I was blessed to be able to create two pysanky designs last Thursday. One I made up and the other I followed the pattern from a book.

The Marian Centre folks are so welcoming and every once in awhile someone in ‘the family’ will stop by for a chat while I work with the wax and Terry paints his latest masterpiece.

We work in ‘the craft’ room. It is so inspiring in so many ways what with the many creative materials for the taking and the religious articles scattered about. I love it. We might put a fire on in the iron chimney, some soft music, and away we go!

I thought of the first design on the way to the studio. I was picturing fish swimming around and around the egg. On a pysanka the fish symbolizes Jesus Christ, a common Christian symbol reflecting life, rebirth, and he being the “Fisher of men”.

My favourite part of the whole drawing with wax and dying the various colours is at the end when I burn off the wax to see the surprise reveal.

For example, the egg above was supposed to be emerald green. One isn’t always assured that the dyes will react how we think when put on top of the other dye layers.

But I ended up liking the blue so I kept it. (If I didn’t like it I could wash off the blue and dye it again.)

Another great day.
