St. Paul’s Then Off To Windsor, Ontario

The morning we woke up on our last day in England we heard the news that a ‘bomb cyclone’, the worst storm in 200 years, would be hitting Europe by evening. Yikes!

We still had a day to explore since our flight didn’t leave till evening so we took a cab past the “Nelson Column” at Trafalgar Square and headed to St. Paul’s Cathedral. Joining the likes of the Roman Pantheon, St.Paul's Cathedral boasts one of the biggest domes in the world at 366 feet high. Terry always wished we could have seen it on past trips to England so today was the day!

And guess who climbed up all those steps right to the very top? (hint: not me!)

In the first photo above if you look in the very middle you can see a tiny arrow pointing to Terry when he was about HALF way up. The next photo has an arrow showing his view of me! Then a selfie from the roof…and his view.

We had the great fortune of attending an Anglican service while we were there or what they call “Eucharist”. It was very nice. Then it was off to the basement to check out the tombs, graves, toilets (!), and gift shop! It was cool to see the resting place of Christopher Wren, the actual architect of the Basilica.

That evening the storm did rear its ugly head and as a result our flight delay to Frankfurt made us miss our next connection. We finally landed in Toronto with no luggage (thank God it went straight to Windsor though) and we sort of had to beg for the hotel we were promised by Luftstansa. Finally, these 2 exhausted people got a room, a handful of toiletries, and a bed at the Courtyard Marriott. Funny thing: I needed to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night but because the room didn’t have an accessible toilet, I had to throw on my long shirt, and make my way through the bright lights to the elevator and main floor where I noticed one. Ugh. Talk about wake you up! ha ha.

We spent the next few days enjoying being near our parents (the reason for our visit) and a few close friends.

I miss them all already. My sister, Mary, just happened to be in town so that was a major bonus too! Here are a few family and friend pics from the week…..

We sure were blessed to still have gorgeous fall weather again. ( We heard it snowed back home) Here are a few of my favourite shots from around town….

Alas, our 3 week adventure had come to a close and it was time to head home….always a good feeling because as we all know…’there’s no place like home’.

I’ll leave you with a few more family shots….

Thanks for journeying with me…

Love,

Laura
