Another Godchild
We are the godparents for Noah, son of Jazz and Sebastièn, so we were surprised and honoured to be asked to be the godparents of his new baby sister, Harper Jane.
Recently, we’ve attended a ‘Celebration of Life’, a funeral and we have a wedding coming up (our daughter, Lana’s) so ….why not a baptism?
We gathered together at St. John the Evangelist church for a private afternoon ceremony and our church ‘activities director/jack of all trades’ Sophie joined us to help out and do the readings.
Although the ceremony was delayed by a couple of diaper changes, ha ha, and our very active Noah decided to explore the whole church with his exhausted daddy chasing after him, the baptism commenced and Fr. Dean did a solemn and lovely job of gifting this sacrament.
Why do we baptize?
Baptism by immersion is a living picture of the burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Water has always played an important part of our Christian history. Noah was saved from the great flood when he trusted God and built the ark. Moses was delivered to the house of Pharoah through the waters of the Red Sea. The Israelites, carried the ‘ark’ of the Covenant across the desert for 40 years before they too crossed the waters of the Jordan River to safety.
And of course Jesus himself was baptised by St. John the baptist.
Baptism is seen as the sacrament of admission to the faith, bringing sanctifying grace to the person being baptized. (In Catholicism the baptism of infants is the most common form, but unbaptized children or adults who wish to join the faith must also receive the sacrament.)
It was a beautiful ceremony and Harper was actually wearing the dress that Noah, Jazz herself, and I believe her mother wore.
She is a very pretty, petite wee thing as you can see in the above photos and after the baptism we were all invited to one of all time favourite Italian restaurants, “Tasty Tomato” for a nice celebration. Terry and I loved our gifts too.
Terry and Noah had many laughs at the table as well……
(We just wish that Jazz and Sebastièn’s parents had been able to join us….all of whom live out of town.)
May God bless you Harper Jane Widner.
And …..Happy birthday today, Jazz Widner!
