A Great Week For My Music

I got invited to submit one of my original songs to “Indie Top Chart” ( I did have to pay for the privilege) which will get a person radio play on stations throughout the world.

I chose my song, ‘Something Perfect” and was put at the very bottom of the list at #445. I had to ask friends and family to vote for the song …which is a pain I know….but they kindly did and continue to do so.

Somehow I’ve managed to receive 1,117 votes! That is the good news! The ….not so good news is that the #1 song has 605,143 votes soooooooo….. looks like if I break out of the 60’s I’ll be very lucky. Still. I’m very happy for my progress up the charts.

Secondly, the World Wide Music Directory heard my song and they invited me to submit to the directory. There are quite a few perks to this so I was quite tickled to be included.

Lastly, I had another wonderful recording session for my 4th CD !

I had previously recorded Geoff on drums for all the songs but I wasn’t happy with all of my ‘scratch tracks’ because of my own issues with timing and being too sore to have the patience to separate the guitar tracks from the vocals.

Since daughter, Emily, at Bitter North can’t do the album this time because SHE is doing her own album for her band “Bad Buddy” I chose James Seabrook of Twobodiesofwater Studio to do this next album.

I visited his new studio (which is really nice) but …. A). It is far east and south from my house now.

B). There are lots of stairs.

The great thing is that James said he was prepared to come to my house to record! So, last week James brought over his equipment and we spent the first day fixing up the scratch tracks. (A Scratch Track is where you do a rough recording to give other musicians an idea of what the new song sounds like.)

We worked for hours and hours to re-record guitar and vocals for songs that recorded them together. And those were only for the songs that included drums. Then we recorded 5 other songs that don’t have drums. Finally, we had decent tracks that James will send out to guest musicians that need to learn my music.

As an aside , James is the king of fun t-shirts. I liked his “Deena Hinshaw” shirt that day!

The next day I asked if I could lay down all 15 ‘good’ guitar tracks.

We did it but I tell you it was a heck of a lot of work. If there’s even one mistake ( a wrong chord, a buzz on a string, misplaced timing, forgetting an entrance, not matching the ending of the drumming, and on and on) you have to record again….and again ….so that James has enough good takes to pull from should he need to fix something.

Because I have arthritis in my right shoulder, hand, and hip it was a bit of a painful experience but the joy I have in knowing that I am finally going to share my new songs made it all worth it.

I’m very proud of these songs and am positive that James is the man to bring them to you in a very professional manner. We had a lot of laughs as well . A wonderful couple of days.

Next step is to send out the tracks to the players I have joining me . Woo Hoo!

Can’t wait to see what we all come up with.
