The Dragonfly
Today I fly off to Long Beach, California, to meet up with family. You see,our daughter, Lana, is getting married.
We will meet up with our sons and their wives. We will meet up with our twin girls and their partners too. My sister,Pamela, and my brother,John, and his wife, Nancy will be there. Over 100 people are flying off to this incredible destination wedding.
Why incredible? Because our talented daughter and her fiancé, Jeff, are incredible. And they have found the person with whom they want to spend the rest of their lives. What an incredible thing!
But you know who won’t be there? Our parents. Our grandparents too. And they’ll be missed. All of our parents are still alive (thanks be to God) but not comfortable with travel. Our grandparents are off to new journeys long ago…like the dragonfly.
When my grandfather, Ernie Pike, died my sister ,Paula, read a story or a poem about a dragonfly I believe. I couldn’t make it home for the funeral because I was acting onstage in Calgary at the time. I’m not sure which poem she read but I found a nice one about a dragonfly.
Here it is…..
I like to think that our grandparents will be near us on November 22nd for the wedding. They have new bodies now but they are very much alive!
I miss you, Grandma, Grandpa, and Nonny.
Meet you at the wedding?
