The Art Of Cake

Following in our annual tradition, my dear friend, Cathy Harvey and I had an opportunity to get together for a lunch at “The Art of Cake”.

It’s hard to describe how beautiful this place is ….especially at Christmas time. It actually fills a spot in my heart that was lost when my beloved “Annabelle’s” closed in Kingsville, Ontario.

Cathy found out that the owner and his mother are the ones who do the decorating. Incredible.

We both couldn’t believe that Christmas tree “dress” in the 4th photo above! Such imagination! I’m sure we weren’t the only ones walking around and taking a gazillion photos!

As you can see, there were SO many sweets to choose from (and that photo is only one of at least 3 areas containing them!) and I had a freshly made egg salad sandwich with my favourite chips!

Cathy and I chose to exchange gifts and I was very happy when she loved the vintage jewelry cross that I made for her. She gave me handmade coasters from her travels in Brazil and a pretty snowman brooch with a story about his origins. Thank-you again, Cathy.

We had a later lunch time booked because Cathy and her husband, David were busy with their many philanthropic jobs. They are incredible people who have given to the Edmonton Christmas Bureau (and various other charities) of their time, talents, and treasures for decades and are such an inspiration to me and to all those with whom they encounter I’m sure.

Because of our later lunch we had a larger table all to ourselves and a nice distance apart from other patrons. All the tables and chairs are unique to each other and I was quite comfortable in my chair with arms (so I could easily get up by myself). Our conversations took us past the two hour mark but seemed to pass in the blink of an eye.

You can’t go wrong if you decide to have lunch or afternoon tea at The Art of Cake. Better still ….go with a good friend….like I did!

It’s now Christmas Eve.

Whether you meet up with a friend or stay cozy warm in your home today….

Let’s remember why we’re celebrating during this joyous season.

“The waiting of Advent is almost over…. He’s coming! He’s coming! Stretch out your hands and receive the Child.” (Donkey Bells)
