West WIndsor Sunset
The closest city in proximity to where I grew up is Windsor, Ontario.
I was heading back early to my hotel room by myself as Terry won’t arrive for a couple of weeks, when I noticed the most brilliant sunset in the West Windsor area.
I thought it would be fun to try and capture a few photos of it and then I thought, ‘Why not? It’s only 7 pm!” So I turned west and left St. Clair Beach (now called Tecumseh) to see if I could still find colour in the sky by the time I got there.
When I started out, the sky was firey red but the sun was sinking fast. I managed to snap a quick photo of Windsor’s “River Cruise Ship” as it barrelled past.
The massive Canadian flag that our friend, Pete Hrastovec worked on getting erected was softly dancing in the still evening.
I had fun pulling over into all the various riverfront parking lots to try and capture the best views of Detroit’s Renaissance Centre or “Ren Cen” . I like all the silhouettes I took at the different locations.
I’ll never forget going on a date with a boy I liked in high school, named Albert. He wanted to treat me to ‘something fancy’ so he took me to the Ren Cen for dinner! We had to cross the Ambassador Bridge and find parking , then we headed up by elevator to the top floor. Wow!
I remember being so excited about this date ,so there we were, this young couple at a ‘top of the line’ restaurant.
We sat down, took a sip of our water and the menu was brought to us. And then Albert’s eyes became round as plates and he said,”I have a plan”. You see he was absolutely shocked by the prices (we’re lucky there WERE prices listed…ha ha) and there was no way he could afford to pay for the meal. I didn’t have a job so I certainly didn’t have any money either!
His plan worked! We acted out that he had done something to upset me, we got in a huge, pretend fight, I threw water in his face, and stormed out with him chasing after me before either of us had ordered a thing. I wasn’t angry at all of course. I thought it was hilarious and being that we were so young and broke we just drove back to Windsor ….and went to McDonald’s. HA HA HA.
This evening I drove all the way past the Ambassador Bridge to Historic Sandwich before I could only see stars in the night sky and it was time to head back.
I’m glad I chased the sunset tonight.
