A Legend, a Visitor, and A Few Tears

I had a wonderful invite to see the legendary Paul Anka at Caesar’s Palace in Windsor. My bestie, Barb, got tickets for us but I was not expecting much from the 82 year old entertainer.

First of all though, we tried a restaurant for dinner that we had never been to before. It was called Eastwood’s and we both liked it very much. It was open air towards the Lake St. Clair and our table was comfortable and low but not too close to the wind or street sounds outside.

I had a delicious penné pesto dish which was made smaller for me because we had no way of carrying around the leftovers. Barb loved her stir fry as well. And it was such a surprise to both of us when our friend, Pat (from our recent high school reunion) showed up with her husband!

Soon it was off to the concert where we had good seats with a fairly good view (and big screens anyway so everyone had a great view.)

And I will admit that I was mistaken….. Paul Anka at 82 years old did an INCREDIBLE concert that night! He was limber, trim, voice well tuned and powerful too. He was funny, likeable, and beloved by the whole crowd. He mostly sang his own songs that he wrote …all of which the entire crowd seemed to recognize and know the words to!

He might have been overly tanned …but he jogged up stairs without a railing, he kicked his legs up a few times when he walked across the stage, he had amazing breath control, and …..not kidding….has a new baby with his young, blond, and very tall fianceé !

He ALSO not only sang but played piano and guitar that night and his band was top notch!

It was a busy few days because the next day I got up early to meet my sister, Paula, and brother, John, for breakfast and a catch up at Potka’s….another new place for me.

That afternoon I picked up my oldest boy from the train station. He had been working all week in Toronto but made the time to come down to Windsor to come with me to the Hospice to see his grandpa. We had some lovely little visits with “J” that afternoon and then the tough time of possibly seeing Terry’s dad for the last time. He looked great and I felt blessed to visit with Terry’s mum and dad that day.

These friend and family times are so precious to me.
