The Gate

13 “Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. 14 But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it. Matthew “

She tread along the path and very rarely stumbled.

The way not straight, the road not smooth, enough to keep her humbled.

Sure of footing many days , on others she lost her way.

She carried on, she heard the song that urged her t’ward the Gate.

Each thorn along the well-worn path snagged and gave her pause.

Was it worth the lovely rose should she give up the cause?

Sometimes she surely lost her way ,saw a street all ‘paved with gold’.

How tempting to choose the easy way, how easy to sell her soul.

But somewhere deep inside her heart she heard a quiet song.

“Follow me”, the voice would sing,” and you will not go wrong.”

She walked and fell, brushed off and well, she just would not give up.

And one day, many years gone by, she’d finally had enough.

She sat upon a mossy rock and thought about her fate.

And that is when she turned to look and see the rusted gate.

A voice said, “Do not go that way… when I can give you gold!”

Another voice ,a quiet song, stayed with her in the cold.

The golden path was wide and short and oh so tempting too.

The little lane off to the right could barely fit her shoe.

In her heart of hearts she knew that Heaven did await.

She chose the right, she chose the light …when she chose the rusted gate.

Oh joy of joys! Oh song of songs! The peace and beauty there!

“Well done, faithful servant”, she heard the Shepherd share.

She flew towards His loving arms. Her journey now complete.

He took her hand, she followed Him, her happiness so sweet.

The brilliant gate behind her closed and then she heard a wail.

An angry shriek, a faceless mob retreat behind the veil.

We can rejoice! She made her choice : The Gate and Heavenly Song.

The way is narrow, often long, but never ever wrong.
