A Change of Space (part two)
One our favourite things to do when we go for a long drive is to locate a place or a scene that we have never noticed before.
It perks up the senses and make us feel excited about what might be around the next corner.
Last year we enjoyed a wonderful road trip around southern Alberta and because we had never made that particular journey before, it was even more fun to discover incredible views and explore some of our provincial ‘treasures’ like “Writing on Stone” and “ Red Rock Coulee”.
So when we went on our little ‘escape the house’ drive last week, it was really fun to to drive down back roads that we’d never seen before.
The waning sun cast beautiful pink/golden light on everything it touched. During the day, the light was very flat because our blue skies disappeared so it was lovely to try and capture the gorgeous colour at the end of the day.
Hard to tell, but there are deer on the snow in that first photo above!
The beams from the dying sun lit up the brown forest in the distance and turned it into a magical place.
The light painted pink on the purple/blue snow and we saw many deer on the way home.
We drove through the incredibly small hamlet of ‘Josephburg’ .
Pioneer families who arrived from Austria in the 1890s settled around the area that became the hamlet of Josephburg. Their most recent population count is 233. Josephburg is an active farming community near the Scotford industrial area, home to world class petrochemical industries. It is 10 minutes southeast of Fort Saskatchewan in the northern portion of Strathcona County.
What a wonderful break our drive afforded us. We felt a bit sore from being in the car all that time (about 4 hours) but it was worth it!
P.S. The next day, Terry and I tested ‘clear’ of Covid-19. (Praise be to God!)
