Pysanky Time! (part 1)
What joy! It felt SO good to be invited back to visit with my Madonna House friends to create some new pysanky designs…first time in three years!
Dina set the table up beautifully with many dye colours and a new station for drying the eggs too.
It was a cold, blustery day. But when I entered the art space I felt a beautiful peace come upon me.
I chose my first design from one of the many books they made available. It has classic designs of rams and flowers. You can see what they symbolize in the chart above ….
The pysanky go through many layers of wax drawing and dye dipping before they get to the final reveal. It is difficult for some (me!) to ‘draw’ with a wax tool (kistka) as the egg is slippery and the roundness is a challenge too.
But although not perfect, I love how they turn out. The green, duck egg pysanky above is drying and the other chicken egg pysanky drying is a design I free-handed and for which I made up the colours. I tried to make a Ukrainian church with the colours of their flag in honour of this poor country who is being forced to flee or be murdered by a mad man.
Below is more information about Easter Eggs ….or pysanky.
