Our Fathers
“Father! - to God himself we cannot give a holier name.”
~ William Wordsworth
Oh, how I love my father.
I had the most delightful chat with my father yesterday. He turned 89 this year and is still smart as a whip, funny, and sensitive. He is a great listener and lover of antique potato mashers of which he has refinished hundreds. Dad made up stories for us when we five were children and we would cuddle up on the bed with excitement and anticipation to hear another ‘chapter’ of the “Brass Ring” story.
My dad is from England and was one of the many children who came over to Canada during the war. Just he and his sister, Jean, on a huge ship, no parents, and then placed with a family they did not know in Windsor, Ontario. He learned to love movies during this time ( off to a movie with ‘two bits’)and passed this down to all of us too.
Dad sang in an award winning boys’ choir and still has a lovely voice to this day. He loves to read and currently paints every single day. Here are a couple of his paintings below…..
Yesterday my two sons were celebrated in their city in B.C. and it looks like they had a great weekend. These two men are also incredible with wonderful families ( beautiful wives and three sons each!)
Our son, D, was finally able to reveal that he has been directing a wonderful new show for Disney called “Spidey and his Amazing Friends”. Our son, J, was recently made partner in his law firm. I’m SO proud of both my boys.
Our twin girls created a wonderful picnic dinner for their dad (and I got to reap the rewards!) with our girl in California,Lana, chipping in monetarily and our daughter, Emma, choosing the charcuterie board ingredients for the most yummy finger food dinner. She brought her homemade guacamole, cheeses, sauces, humus, meats, breads, crackers and fruits and assembled it for us as we sat in the tent we brought to a park near our home. And in case we were still hungry ….there was cake!
I hope that my husband feels very loved.
Because he is.
Happy belated “Father’s Day” to all the good fathers here or alive in our hearts.
