Off To The A.G.A

The Alberta Art Gallery is one of my favourite buildings.

The architecture is so great and of course ….I love art!

So when “D” and “J” wanted to see the new show there ….”From Warhol to Banksy” I was happy to tag along.

J’s mum came along as well and we really enjoyed the exhibition. AMAZING to me that these absolutely iconic pieces were in our Edmonton art gallery. WOW!

The first room held a beautiful indigenous selection of paintings. J mentioned that she loved how each artist also gets to choose their own wall colour to best show off their art. Good point!

Then it was the Andy Warhol rooms and again, there were so many of the original, famous images that we’ve come to recognize and enjoy….everything from his many “Marilyn” images to his spray cans. Fun!

Our boys also enjoyed a couple of interactive rooms where they got to colour or write what they like about the moon or watch movies of dancers.

Our grandsons have a ‘Banksy” book so they were also very interested in coming to the show. It did not disappoint.

Do you know who Banksy is? Banksy is a pseudonymous England-based street artist, political activist and film director whose real name and identity remain unconfirmed and the subject of speculation. (Google)

HIs work sells for millions now even though it just started off as graffiti. I found it to be funny, thought provoking, clever, beautiful, excellent, and enjoyable. My favourite part might have been a video about him secretly creating graffiti and the famous moment at Sotheby’s where he shredded his painting and it STILL ended up selling for $25.4 million dollars!

We took a break at lunchtime to head to “Taste of Edmonton” and all enjoyed very expensive food truck lunches…ha ha….that cost Grandma Bev and I quite a few tickets ….and D still ended up buying more! Then it was back to the gallery for a couple more rooms and also to get out of the extreme heat.
