Medicine Hat

Once upon a time there was a giant teepee that was used in the Opening and Closing Ceremonies of the 1988 Olympic Games.

After the games, the teepee was removed from the grounds in Calgary and it was going to be scrapped. A group of 3 friends (one of whom was Terry) purchased it and established a charity to raise money to erect it permanently in Calgary. Ultimately, that city declined so we found a home for it in Medicine Hat . We donated it and all the money we raised for its installation there!

(A Texas land developer tried to buy it to use at a shopping mall there but we turned down the profit in order to keep it in Canada.) We just really thought this sculpture was worth saving and the meaning behind the teepee both for our country and because of its association with our own Olympic Games made it a project worth chasing. And it worked! Here we are in “The Hat” and this World’s Biggest is INCREDIBLE!

If you ever have a chance to get to Medicine Hat you must check it out!
