Mandolin Books
Because it will getting colder soon and it was supposed to be one of our last really warm autumn days, my friend, Cathy, asked if we could postpone our visit to later in the afternoon where we could meet up at “Mandolin Books” .
Cathy and her husband, David, then went kayaking and had a lovely day out in the sunshine.
I was delighted to rediscover Mandolin Books after all these years because I had quite honestly forgotten about this lovely shop.
Nestled in the pretty area of the Highlands, it is on the main street and is sandwiched between other businesses with lots of character and style.
From their website…..
“Mandolin Books and Coffee Company is a cozy cafe and used bookstore that was first established in 2003. Located in the business district of the historic Highlands community, Mandolin has long been a treasured gathering place for the neighbourhood. We offer delicious food and drinks, as well as a wide selection of high quality used books, both fiction and non-fiction.
People drop in to Mandolin for many reasons... Some are looking for a quiet place to study and others are seeking a relaxing conversation or engaging discussion with friends. Some stop along the way while on a walk for a refreshing drink. Some drive or bike longer distances for a favourite item on our menu. Some are looking to find their next great reading adventure or the perfect gift for someone special. Some head straight for the children's section at the back hoping to entertain young ones, and some are eager to relax amid the flowers on our patio. Some are simply exploring the neighbourhood and wander through our doors ready for whatever awaits. All receive a warm welcome. “
Years ago I used to perform there on some evenings (my original music) and I even had my artwork up there at one point. I love the feeling inside the bookshop with all its cozy corners for reading and their little café also serves up some nice drinks to accompany your chosen sweet.
They have gifts for sale along with the books and now they have a nice outdoor patio in the back which is where I had the pleasure of meeting up with my friend, Cathy.
I really enjoy her company and this day was no exception. We had a great and lengthy chat. I’m so grateful for her friendship.
One nice surprise was that the former owners of Mandolin purchased one of my mixed media pieces (on wood panel) called “TeaTime” and it was still up in the shop!!!
If the day wasn’t full enough, that evening I was hosting Book Club so it was soon time to scoot home and prepare for that….
To be continued…..
