Ladies At The Lake
Somehow between so many rainy days in a row our calendars showed that it was time to head out to Alberta Beach to visit friends….and it was to be a sunny day….ALL day!
I met Elizabeth in Peter Hemmingway pool and we’ve remained friends for years despite the fact that the pool closed years ago for ongoing renovations.
Elizabeth invited several of the wonderful ‘pool ladies’ over for a lunch at her cottage and her husband, Guy, would barbeque then go off for 9 holes of golf with Terry and our friend, Joy.
If I have this correct, I think Guy’s grandfather built this cottage and it is over 100 years old! It belongs to their family and Guy says he’d rather live out there full time than stay in Edmonton.
I can see why: waking up to the water gently lapping at the sandy shore in front of your cottage, birds twittering, quiet neighbours, and a slower lifestyle.
They have pretty flowers around the property, and lots and lots of chairs for guests. We were asked to bring something to add to the yummy barbequed Polish sausage dogs or hamburgers lunch so I brought my homemade lemon poppyseed zucchini cake.
Although we were the first ones there, the ladies soon started to arrive. It was SO good to see them and some of them had turned 80 in the past few months. They looked great. One 90 year old friend had actually passed out and fallen backwards off of her daughter’s porch this past December and after months of rehab she was walking on her own and she looked wonderful!
A pretty orange tabby come over for cuddles and the ladies and myself spent the afternoon petting the cat, catching up, and eating a yummy lunch.
Terry, Guy, and Joy arrived back around 3:30 (after 9 holes of golf) and we still kept on chatting some more! I especially enjoyed talking about books, t.v. shows, and movies that people had enjoyed. I have a whole new arsenal of ideas now.
But, alas all good things come to an end so it was hugs for all and time to get back on the road for our 50 minute journey home.
So thankful for these wonderful friends.
